The Rebel Son edition by Guy Quigley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is an action packed book in every sense of the word. To me, the best, most interesting passages take place in Africa; details flow, that intrigued me, making me want to read more. I wondered how anyone could casually walk anyplace in the bush like through a field in Africa and not get eaten by a lion, or walk through a tunnel of vines knowing a poisonous snake was waiting to attack? Thrown in the midst of the The Bush War in Rhodesia, the hero, a Vietnam vet, once again finds himself the target of enemy fire. But this book is not just about war, it is about the triumph of love, spanning two African countries, two continents and two races. A great book, the dialogue is solid, and real. Read it. You'll enjoy it. And You'll want more.
Wonderfully developed characters draw you into this spiraling tale of survival and adventure.
Africa is its own character in the story and is described both wonderfully in its landscape and brutally in its social turmoil of the time during the Rhodesian liberation war. Guy writes with authority and the action is delivered in such a realistic fashion that it sets the tone of true danger surrounding his characters.
Pleasantly surprised and highly recommended.
This was the first book that I've read by Guy Quigley. I truly wasn't sure what to expect. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Guy has a great way with words and drawing you into story as if you were there. You could almost hear the cascading falls and feel the heat of Africa. I thoroughly enjoyed the love story, with its history and saga of a time we all remember. I couldn't stop turning the pages to see how its twist and turns would end. I highly recommend this book to both sexes as it is filled with enough suspense and drama to hold you captive! I know this book would make a great Christmas gift! Thanks for such a wonderful read! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to your next book!

This is primarily an adventure story which jumps around the world. The main focus is in the Rhodesia and Zambia area of Africa. It is an easy read, but not boring. The adventure and action (sometimes violent) is peppered often enough to keep interest, but not overwhelm. Within the story is a love story which is not too over the top and fits into the book nicely. There are two other brief "love" stories which I personally did not care for nor did I see that they contributed much to the overall story, but since they are brief they don't overtake any of the other aspects of the story. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read that will definitely keep your attention with its storyline and pace.
Having read some of Guy Quigleys former books, I decided to acquire a copy of his latest novel "A Rebel Son" and I was not disappointed. It is a great love/adventure story that will appeal to both sexes. It spans continents and has more twists than a dangerous alpine road with descriptive passages of the African landscape that are breathtaking and transport you there. It is a compelling page turner so fellow readers get this one you won't be disappointed. And if it is ever made into a movie, I'll be the first to queue for tickets.

I just finished the book The Rebel Son and wanted to express my delight in it. I have always had a fascination with Africa and was brought into the country with all it's magnificence through this book. I enjoyed learning about the characters and the plot kept me interested page after page. I definitely think this book needs a sequel. I enjoyed it very much and would highly it recommend it.

I enjoyed this - as I grew up in Africa I have to say he did a great job...the stories of the Viscounts downed by terrorists is one largely unknown...he brings it to life. For an EVEN more remarkable and TRUE story about these events see Viscount Down (Dotcom...) available as a kindle edition...The failure of nearly every Government to condemn these atrocities when Air Rhodesia Flight RH825, a scheduled passenger flight, with just civilians on board, was deliberately shot down by Communist-backed terrorists (ZIPRA) on 3 September 1978 - and then, 5 months later, in February 1979, another passenger airliner, RH827, another civilian flight, in an almost identical cowardly attack on innocents...by ZIPRA
There was a “Deafening Silence” from governments and the UN – and from the Churches of Rome and England!
This was articulated in the sermon by the late Very Reverend John da Costa known as The Deafening Silence. You can download a recording of his sermon at Viscountdown.com or a transcript is available at [...] See more [...]
I did not like this book.its depiction of the freedom fighters in Rhodesia as being ruthless ans savages turned me off.the protagonist was just as ruthless..
Whenever I had to put the book down, I couldn't wait to get back into it. Totally unique plot. Would love to know what the characters are doing 10 years later. Excellent.
